Candis Smith is a Professor of Political Science at Duke University, where Smith's research focuses on the influence of race, racism, and structural inequality in American politics. Smith has authored or co-authored several significant publications, including "Black Mosaic: The Politics of Black Pan-Ethnic Identity," "Stay Woke: A People’s Guide to Making Black Lives Matter," and "Racial Stasis: The Millennial Generation and the Stagnation of Racial Attitudes in American Politics." In addition, Smith serves as the Interim Vice Provost for Undergraduate Education at Duke, providing leadership for various aspects of the undergraduate experience. Prior positions include Associate Professor of Political Science and African American Studies at Penn State University and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, as well as Assistant Professor at Williams College. Smith holds a BA, MA, and Ph.D. in Political Science from Duke University.
