Fernando Melero García

Fernando Melero García has a diverse work experience. Fernando started their career as a Spanish Teaching Assistant at John H. Reagan High School, where they provided support to Heritage Spanish Language and Literature students and performed administrative tasks. Fernando then worked at the University of New Mexico as an Instructor of Record and a Supervisor for Spanish courses. During their time at Indiana University, Fernando served as an Associate Instructor, designing and teaching Spanish language courses and organizing professional events. Fernando also worked as an Afternoon Activities Coordinator and a Study Abroad Instructor and Coordinator, facilitating language courses and managing logistics for study abroad programs in Chile. Fernando later joined the Ministerio de Asuntos Exteriores y de Cooperación de España as a Sworn Translator and Interpreter, providing certified translation services for various documents. Fernando then worked at The University of Texas at Arlington as an Assistant Professor of Spanish and Translation, where they designed and taught a wide range of Spanish courses and served as the director of the Certificate in Spanish Translation program. Currently, Fernando holds the position of Curriculum Designer at Duolingo.

Fernando Melero García has an extensive education history. Fernando completed their Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Hispanic Linguistics at Indiana University Bloomington from 2015 to 2020. Prior to that, they earned a Master's degree in Hispanic Linguistics from The University of New Mexico from 2013 to 2015. In 2008 to 2012, they obtained a Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Translation and Interpreting from Universidad de Granada. Additionally, they spent the 2009 to 2010 academic year at the University of Wolverhampton as part of an Erasmus program, focusing on Translation and Interpreting and Linguistics.

In terms of additional certifications, Fernando Melero García has obtained several. In November 2012, they acquired the Sworn Translator and Interpreter certification (EN/ES & ES/EN) from the Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, European Union, and Cooperation. More recently, in 2022, they received several certifications from ACUE (Association of College and University Educators), including the Certificate in Effective College Instruction, Inspiring Inquiry and Preparing Lifelong Learners, Designing Student-Centered Courses, Promoting Active Learning, and Creating an Inclusive and Supportive Learning Environment. Fernando also obtained the Microcredential Innovator certification from Badgr (now part of Instructure) in 2022.
