Heather Vail has a diverse work experience in various roles and industries. Heather started their career as a Communications Lecturer at Toi Ohomai Institute of Technology in 2008 and worked there until June 2022. During this time, they also worked as a Communications, Journalism Lecturer at Waiariki Institute of Technology from March 2008 to January 2014. In 2010, they served as a Communications Coordinator at RAPHS - Rotorua Area Primary Health Services, where they designed and facilitated communication platforms for healthcare providers.

In the years 2014 to 2017, Heather Vail pursued a Master's degree at The University of Waikato with a global studies focus in the field of Education.
