Heather Vail

Heather Vail has a diverse work experience in various roles and industries. Heather started their career as a Communications Lecturer at Toi Ohomai Institute of Technology in 2008 and worked there until June 2022. During this time, they also worked as a Communications, Journalism Lecturer at Waiariki Institute of Technology from March 2008 to January 2014. In 2010, they served as a Communications Coordinator at RAPHS - Rotorua Area Primary Health Services, where they designed and facilitated communication platforms for healthcare providers.

Heather then went on to work as a Communications Contractor at Paua Communications from January 2008 to January 2013, where they handled photography, newsletters, media, and social network advisory. Heather also worked as a Workplace Tutor at edvance workplace tutoring from August 2013 to August 2014.

In 2015, Heather became the Manager of Rotorua Henna Ladies, where they specialized in henna body art. Heather managed the business, primarily operating at the Rotorua Thursday Night Market and accepting appointments. Heather combined traditional mehndi designs with modern Kiwi patterns in their temporary tattoos. Heather held this role until March 2023.

Heather's recent work experience includes being an Online Tutor at Duolingo from January 2022 to the present. Heather also served as a Learning Facilitator at Time to Korero with Tamariki - TKT from February 2022 to February 2023. Currently, they work as an Independent Consultant at Quince Prints and will start their role as a Centre Manager at English Language Partners in March 2023.

Heather Vail graduated with a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degree in Women's Studies from the University of California, Santa Cruz in the years 1982 to 1986. Later, from 2009 to 2012, they attended the Waiariki Institute of Technology and obtained a NZ Certificate in Adult Literacy Education (Vocational Tutor/Workplace Trainer) and NZ Cert in Adult Te, focusing on Literacy & Numeracy and Adult Education. In the years 2014 to 2017, Heather Vail pursued a Master's degree at The University of Waikato with a global studies focus in the field of Education.
