About the position:

E-Line is seeking a Lead Engineer, Mobile to join our team, initially focusing on a key upcoming mobile simulation game project. This new team member will partner with the Game Design and Production leadership in the creation of new game systems and features, and will be the point person for implementing all game data.

Our ideal candidate is comfortable working with team members across disciplines, and communicating with executives and project partners to support our inclusive development process. Ideal candidates will have an intuitive understanding of how to approach design and implementation of game data leading to an exceptional game experience. Previous experience working in Unity is needed.

An ideal candidate also has excellent communication skills, enthusiasm for working in-engine, problem-solving, and an interest in driving impact through games.

Although E-Line’s headquarters are in Phoenix, we work with game development talent around the world. This is a remote position open to candidates worldwide. However, candidates who can overlap with the North American working hours will be given preference.

As Lead Engineer you will …

  • Set the Technical Vision: As the Technical Lead, you will drive the overarching technical vision and strategy for the game's development. You'll be the compass guiding the team towards achieving optimal performance, engaging gameplay mechanics, and visual fidelity.

  • Drive Technical Expertise: You will leverage your extensive knowledge of Unity to implement and optimize game systems, features, and UI. You will tackle technical challenges head-on and devise innovative solutions to ensure efficient performance, and a bug-free experience. Your problem-solving skills will be crucial in delivering a quality player experience.

  • Lead the Engineering Effort: You will work closely with Production,Game Design and Art leads to define deliverables and schedules that will fulfill the project's vision within ‘indie budgets’ and timeframes and provide clear technical guidance, and constructive feedback, facilitating knowledge sharing. Your leadership will empower the team to overcome challenges and ensure development team excellence.

  • Lead Game Architecture and Design: Collaborate closely with production, game design, and art to translate creative concepts into efficient technical designs. Your ability to bridge the gap between creative aspirations and technical realities will be instrumental in achieving a cohesive and captivating game world.

  • Work Closely with Quality Assurance: You will work closely with QA resources to ensure a bug-free, performant experience. This will include test plan reviews,  triaging and addressing bugs, and helping manage testing scope and priorities.

  • Collaborate Actively: Communicate effectively and work closely with the game development team across all disciplines as well as domain experts, marketing, and management to ensure the technical vision and approach supports the project goals.

  • Support Innovation: Play a role in creating socially conscious entertainment, helping to develop an amazing game experience with positive social impact and strong business outcomes. Stay up to date with industry trends to ensure the game's tech direction helps to drive to a compelling, playful, and relevant experience.

We’re looking for someone who has …

  • 6+ years of proven full-cycle iOS/Android game development experience with two or more shipped commercial titles as an engineer/programmer.

  • Experience building systemic gameplay to foster emergent behaviors and/or dynamic player stories.

  • Experience working with databases and state machines.

  • Strong proficiency in Unity and C#.

  • Familiarity with game development pipelines and version control systems.

  • A keen understanding of technical constraints and the ability to adhere to them to achieve the project’s vision.

  • Exceptional communication skills with a collaborative, team-player attitude.

  • Proven ability to work in a highly collaborative, interdisciplinary, iterative environment while delivering under deadlines and time constraints.

  • Ability to articulate complex technical challenges with clarity and conviction.

It’s a bonus if you …

  • Have shipped one or more games built with Unity.

  • Previous experience working with the Unreal engine.

  • Have knowledge or expertise in performance profiling and optimization techniques across game platforms.

  • Have a love for innovative video games exploring new and compelling themes.

  • Have a passion for simulation games.

  • Love the mobile games space.

Imagine a mobile life simulation game that explores Impact Investing, encouraging players to align their values with their financial decisions, and create a positive impact in their community and the world. This game will give players a compelling and entertaining way to think about the emergent negative and positive effects of their individual, and the playerbase’s collective, investing and financial decisions.
