Sanjika Hewavitharana is a seasoned professional with extensive experience in applied research and natural language processing. Currently serving as a Senior Manager of Applied Research at eBay since September 2015, Sanjika leads a team focused on essential NLP capabilities and inventory understanding. Previous roles include Senior Research Scientist in the AI - HLT division at eBay, where Sanjika was the technical lead for language understanding and machine translation, and Scientist at Raytheon BBN Technologies, developing low-latency speech-to-speech translation systems for DARPA projects. Sanjika's academic background includes a Ph.D. and M.S. in Language Technologies from Carnegie Mellon University, alongside a B.Sc. in Computer Science from the University of Colombo.
