James Webb

Co-Founder & Lead Scientist at Ecto

Dr. James Webb co-founded Ecto and is the Chief Scientist. He has broad experience in pharmaceutical biotechnology, fish biology, plant biology, molecular genetics, aquaculture system design, and commercial project management. Under his leadership, Ecto developed technologies and products related to high-throughput gamete and embryo preservation, on-site genotyping and disease diagnostics tailored for aquaculture facilities in both developed and developing countries. Prior to starting Ecto, James conducted operational audits of existing commercial aquaculture operations and developed new aquaculture ventures as a post-doctorate researcher at the University of Massachusetts Amherst. He has participated in aquaculture research and development projects in USA, Norway, Chile, Japan, Australia, Panama, Uganda, and Taiwan working with salmon, tilapia, shrimp and tuna. James started his professional career in Idec Pharmaceuticals where he was involved in high-throughput development initiatives. He completed his Master’s degree in Aquaculture from the University of Tasmania and his doctoral studies at Florida Atlantic University
