Karina Liu has a decade of work experience in education. Karina began their career in 2008 as an Operations Associate at DonorsChoose.org. In 2011, they joined Uncommon Schools as a Math Teacher and Curriculum Specialist, providing curricular materials and support to math teachers across 8 Uncommon middle schools in Brooklyn and delivering quarterly Professional Development for groups of 40+ teachers. Karina also taught 6th Grade Math and 8th Grade Math. In 2014, they joined Brooklyn Prospect Charter School as a Math Teacher. In 2015, they joined Rocketship Education as an Assistant Principal and 5th Grade Math Teacher. In 2016, they became a School Innovation Partner at Partners in School Innovation. In 2017, they joined Rowe Elementary School as an 8th Grade Math Teacher. In 2018, they joined Distinctive Schools as a 6th Grade Math Teacher, where they developed and taught math curriculum focused on problem-solving, discourse, and individualized student learning. Karina also leveraged technology platforms including Summit Learning, Desmos, IXL, Prodigy, and Kahoot, and implemented Restorative Justice Practices to build a safe, productive, and supportive classroom community. Karina founded and organized the school's Mathletes Team for 20 5-8th grade students. In 2020, they joined Math Nation as a Content Writer, where they wrote and edited lessons for 6-8th grade and Algebra 1 aligned with Florida's B. E. S. Finally, in 2021, they joined EdConnective as a Virtual Instructional Coach.
Karina Liu obtained their Master of Arts (M.A.) in Mathematics Teacher Education from Teachers College, Columbia University in 2011. Karina had previously obtained their Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) from Stanford University in 2008.
