Rafael Villamor-Lora

Rafael Villamor-Lora has a diverse work experience in the field of geotechnical engineering and research. Rafael currently serves as a Senior Geotechnical Engineer at EDEN since June 2022. Prior to that, they worked at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) from September 2015 to May 2022, where they held roles as a Research Assistant. In these roles, they focused on investigating flow and transport in rock fractures and conducted techno-economic modeling of nuclear power plant construction.

Additionally, Rafael worked as an Intern at Schlumberger in the Geomechanics group from June 2019 to August 2019. During this time, they designed and fabricated a biaxial load frame for sleeve fracturing experiments and developed a laboratory data acquisition and control code.

Furthermore, Rafael held positions at the University of Vermont from September 2013 to May 2015, where they conducted research as a Geomechanical Characterization of Shale Formations Research Assistant. Rafael also served as a Graduate Teaching Assistant for various courses, including Geotechnical Principles, Hydraulics, Mechanics of Materials, Transportation Systems, and Geomatics, where they prepared and taught laboratory and field sections of the classes, graded homework and exams, and held office hours.

Rafael Villamor-Lora earned their Bachelor's degree in Engineering from Universidad Alfonso X El Sabio between 2007 and 2013. Rafael then pursued a Master of Science (M.S.) in Civil & Environmental Engineering, specializing in Geotechnical Engineering at the University of Vermont from 2013 to 2015. Finally, they obtained a Ph.D. in Civil & Environmental Engineering with a focus on Geotechnical Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, completing their studies from 2015 to 2022.
