Field Engineer Intern

The Field Engineer Intern will provide technical support and assistance in managing the day-to-day operations of the data center. The Intern participates and helps operational team members in equipment installation, performs regular maintenance and corrective tasks under supervision of engineer and respond to incidents or issues that arise in the data center environment. They may also be involved in documenting procedures, assisting with capacity and maintenance planning, and ensuring the overall health and availability of the data center infrastructure. This position reports to the Local Chief Engineer.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Assisting in the installation, configuration, and maintenance and/or corrective actions of power distribution systems within the data center, including electrical panels, circuit breakers, and power cables.
  • Learning about power and cooling distribution principles, equipment specifications, and industry standards related to data center power infrastructure.
  • Supporting other engineers in conducting routine inspections and testing of Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) units to ensure their proper functioning and availability during power outages or fluctuations.
  • Assisting in monitoring and maintaining the cooling systems, such as air-conditioning units and HVAC (Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning), AHU (Air Handling Unit) systems, to ensure a suitable operating environment for the data center equipment.
  • Participating in the maintenance and testing of backup generators, verifying their readiness to provide power in the event of a utility power failure.
  • Assisting in documenting and maintaining accurate records as instructed by the Chief Engineer.
  • Collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure effective coordination and timely resolution of any power/cooling-related issues or emergencies.
  • Learning and adhering to safety protocols and industry best practices for electrical and cooling systems and power infrastructure within the data center.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with cross-functional teams, senior engineers, and vendors.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and adapt to changing priorities or emergencies related to data center critical infrastructure.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to accurately document and maintain records of power/cooling infrastructure-related activities.
  • Demonstrating dedication, commitment, and a strong sense of responsibility towards assigned tasks and projects.
  • Embracing new ideas and approaches

Experience/Education

  • Actively enrolled in and working towards bachelor’s degree (Junior or Senior credit status)
  • Candidates who have completed technical school are strongly encouraged to apply.
