Nigel Hampton

Technical Executive at Electric Power Research Institute

Nigel Hampton is a highly experienced technical executive currently serving at EPRI since September 2023. Previously, at UL from October 2021 to September 2023, responsibilities included engineering support for commissioning tests and leading revisions of IEEE standards for power cable systems. Nigel held several roles at NEETRAC from 2006 to September 2021, including Principal Research Engineer, Section Leader, and Associate Director, focusing on reliability, condition assessment, and asset management with significant oversight on numerous projects. As a Principal Investigator at Orton Consulting Engineers International, Nigel specialized in HVDC converter structures and subsea cable failures while contributing to technical publications. Earlier roles included Application Manager at Borealis and Research Manager at BICC Cables Ltd, encompassing R&D and materials technology management. Educational credentials include an MSc in Polymer Engineering from Manchester Polytechnic and a BSc and PhD in Physics from the University of Bath.
