Summary
We are welcoming a seasoned business development professional to our fast-growing team as a Senior Director of Business Development focusing on our Biopharma business on the West Coast. This is a great opportunity to represent a novel technology platform as it emerges in the expanding segment of cancer immunotherapy drug discovery and development. The Senior Director of Business Development will provide strategic direction at the account level along with tactical focus to create valuable biopharma client relationships. The ability to be a strong collaborator with both internal and external stakeholders is key to success in meeting quota and exceeding client expectations. The ideal candidate will also be an essential voice of the customer working with cross functional teams to inform the evolution and strategy of our products and services. The role will be remote, but travel will be up to 50% dependent on location. Ideally, you will be remotely located on the West Coast of the US and will focus on potential clients in the Western US.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Develop and maintain Business Development territory strategy to enable quota achievement and accurate forecasting
Own the sales cycle from prospecting and customer engagement through close of sale and post-sale support driving repeat business
Establish and maintain relationships with new customers securing sales to achieve assigned sales quotas in assigned territory
Lead contract negotiations defending value and Elephas best practices
Demonstrate strong business intelligence by maintaining a high level of relevant domain knowledge of both internal technology and services as well as cancer immunotherapy drug discovery and development and identifying the relevant resulting opportunities
Represent the voice of the customer to internal teams including product managers, operations, and R&D to shape future customer requirements and product/service enhancements and partner with marketing to plan and execute lead generation campaigns and identify opportunities for improved sales tools
Provide feedback to sales management on ways to decrease the sales cycle, enhance sales and improve company brand and reputation
Act as a coach and mentor to junior staff across the organization within sphere of influence
Education/Experience/Skills
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Life Sciences or related scientific discipline with advanced scientific degree is a plus
7+ years of experience selling into the drug discovery and development space with proven track record of success
Strong understanding of the drug discovery and development process with preference for experience in the oncology and immunology space
Excellent communication skills with the ability to create and deliver effective presentations that create a sense of urgency in diverse customer stakeholder groups
Knowledge of current account in the cancer immunotherapy market with demonstrated client retention skills
Demonstrated negotiation skills in-person, virtually, and via written communication
Ability to travel 25-50% depending on location
Excellent time management with effective organizational and administration skills
CRM proficiency with a preference for HubSpot experience
Highly self-motivated and collaborative leading with a team approach to achieve commercial and client goals
Desire to work in the dynamic environment of a start-up that requires a “can do” mentality
Proficient in Microsoft Office Applications
