Derek Shaffer

Derek Shaffer Ph.D. is a skilled metallurgist currently employed at ELLWOOD National Forge since May 2023. With a robust academic background, Derek obtained a Ph.D. in Materials Science and a Master's degree in the same field from Penn State University, where teaching and research roles were held from August 2018 to May 2023, focusing on educating mechanical and industrial engineers in materials science and conducting advanced research. Prior contributions include leading research at Penn State Erie, The Behrend College, collaborating with major industry players like Ford Motor Company and Boeing, and gaining practical experience through internships in mechanical manufacturing and construction. The educational journey commenced with a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Pennsylvania State University-Erie Campus and a high school diploma from Lakeview High School.
