Rolf Apweiler

Director, EMBL-EBI at EMBL

Rolf Apweiler is the current Director of EMBL-EBI at EMBL. Prior to this, they were the Director at OpenTargets from March 2018 to January 2019. Rolf has also served as Joint Head of Protein and Nucleotide Data Group at EMBL-EBI from January 1994 to December 2012, Researcher at Boehringer Mannheim from January 1991 to December 1994, and Associate Director at EMBL-EBI from April 2012 to June 2015. Rolf Apweiler started their career as a Swiss-Prot Annotator at EMBL in January 1987 and served in that role until December 1994.

Rolf Apweiler was educated at Gymnasium Baesweiler and Grundschule Prummern before going on to study biology at Heidelberg University, where they obtained a Dr rer nat and a Diplom-Biologe.
