Vels Michael

Vels Michael has a extensive work experience in finance and leadership roles. Vels is currently a Member of the Board of Trustees at Crombie REIT since June 2022. Previously, from 2017 to 2021, they held the positions of Chief Development Officer and Chief Financial Officer at Sobeys and Empire Company Limited. Prior to that, they served as the Chief Financial Officer at Hydro One from 2015 to 2017. From 2004 to 2014, they worked at Maple Leaf Foods Inc, where they held the roles of Executive Vice President and Chief Transition Officer, and Chief Financial Officer. Additionally, they served on the board of directors at Canada Bread Company, Ltd. and Country Style Food Services. Vels Michael began their career at KPMG Canada as a Senior Manager before joining Maple Leaf Foods Inc. as VP Finance in 1991.

Vels Michael's education history begins in 1979 when they enrolled at the University of the Witwatersrand. Vels completed their Bachelor of Accountancy degree in Finance in 1984. In 1985, they attended the Institute of Chartered Accountants of South Africa, where they obtained a degree as a Chartered Accountant (SA). Finally, Vels Michael attended the University of Toronto - Rotman School of Management, where they completed the Director's Education Program in 2015.
