Senior Scientist II at Empress Therapeutics

Aarti Rohira has a diverse work experience spanning various roles and companies. Aarti is currently working at Empress Therapeutics as a Senior Scientist II, a position they have held since March 2023. Prior to this, they served as a Senior Scientist I at the same company from November 2021 to February 2023.

Before joining Empress Therapeutics, Aarti worked at Baylor College of Medicine, where they held the position of Instructor from August 2020 to November 2021. Their responsibilities included pre-clinical drug development and testing in disease models of cancer, kidney fibrosis, and cardiovascular disease. Aarti also played a key role in establishing cancer stem cell models and identifying the regulatory mechanism of steroid receptor coactivators on cancer stem cell growth and survival. Aarti discovered the cardio protective effect of steroid receptor coactivator stimulators after myocardial infarction and the protective role for SRC stimulator for kidney fibrosis after kidney injury. Aarti utilized various techniques such as Magnetic Activated Cell Sorting (MACS) and in vitro differentiation assays to examine the effects of drugs on cellular plasticity and fibrosis.

Prior to their role at Baylor College of Medicine, Aarti worked as a Postdoctoral Research Associate at both Baylor College of Medicine and the University of Southern California. Aarti completed their PhD in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at the University of Southern California, where they also worked as a Teaching Assistant from August 2010 to July 2012.

Aarti also gained industry experience through summer internships at Genetics Diagnostic Center in 2004 and Reliance Life Sciences in 2003.

Throughout their career, Aarti has demonstrated strong research abilities, expertise in drug development, and a commitment to mentoring students and technicians.

Aarti Rohira completed a Bachelor's of Science (B.Sc.) degree in Biotechnology from the University of Mumbai from 2002 to 2005. Subsequently, from 2007 to 2013, they pursued their Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degree in Genetics, Molecular and Cellular Biology at the University of Southern California.
