Farhana Akhter

Senior Program Officer Fistula Care Plus Project at EngenderHealth

Farhana Akhter has worked in various roles and organizations throughout their career. Farhana started their career as an intern at UNAIDS in 2009, where they organized and coordinated project and program activities. Farhana also prepared a report on insurance availability for HIV patients in Bangladesh. In 2010, they joined Médecins Sans Frontières Belgium as a physician, providing medical assistance to malnourished children and adolescent women. Farhana treated malnourished children at an ambulatory therapeutic feeding center and provided nutritional support. In 2013, they joined EngenderHealth Bangladesh as a Senior Program Officer on the Fistula Care Plus project, which focused on the treatment and prevention of fistula.

Farhana Akhter obtained their Bachelor's Degree in Medicine and Surgery (MBBS) from the University of Science and Technology, Chittagong between 1996 and 2002. Farhana then went on to pursue a Master's Degree in Public Health from North South University, completing their studies from 2008 to 2013.
