Sasmita Sahoo, Ph.D.

Senior Research Scientist at Enriched Ag

Sasmita Sahoo, Ph.D. has a strong background in research and data science. Sasmita is currently employed as a Senior Research Scientist at Enriched Ag since November 2021. Prior to this, they worked as a Research Scientist at Michigan State University from October 2019 to October 2021. In this role, they focused on data-driven agriculture, geospatial modeling, and machine learning to develop sustainable solutions for precision agriculture. Sasmita also developed and implemented data science and machine learning models for various applications, such as image classification and multi-level machine learning algorithms for cloud and shadow detection in satellite imagery.

Before joining Michigan State University, Dr. Sahoo worked as a Research Scientist at the Great Lakes Bioenergy Research Center from October 2019 to October 2021. Additionally, they have experience as a Consultant and Data Scientist at Croptix, where they processed sensor data, developed machine learning models, and created GIS-based visualizations to derive actionable insights from agricultural data.

Earlier in their career, Dr. Sahoo served as a Postdoctoral Research Associate at Penn State University, where they analyzed the effects of climate variability, crop irrigation demand, and streamflow on groundwater level fluctuations and future water availability in major agricultural regions of the United States. Sasmita designed predictive models based on machine learning algorithms, regression models, spectral analysis, and uncertainty analysis techniques to better understand these interactions.

Overall, Dr. Sahoo's work experience demonstrates their expertise in data-driven agriculture, geospatial modeling, machine learning, and sustainable agricultural production. Sasmita has applied their skills and knowledge to develop practical solutions for precision agriculture and address environmental challenges in the agricultural sector.

Sasmita Sahoo, Ph.D. has a strong educational background in the field of Agricultural and Food Engineering. Sasmita received their Bachelor's degree in Agricultural Engineering from Orissa University of Agriculture and Technology in 2009. Following this, they pursued a Master's degree in the same field, specializing in Water Resources Management, at Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur from 2009 to 2011. Dr. Sahoo continued their academic journey at the Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur, where they completed their Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Agricultural and Food Engineering, focusing on Hydrology and Water Resources, in 2015.
