Mrs. Hussey has had over fifteen years experience with non-invasive neuromodulation technology, having co-founded NS Health, Australia in 2003 (www.ns-health.com.au). Helen was inspired to bring this little-known technology to the world following the successful drug-free management of her then 10 year old daughter’s pain, associated with a life-threatening condition. This event sparked a lifelong dedication to ensure access to patient-centered choices in health care. Her initial efforts to champion this technology resulted in the creation of distribution companies in Australia, Canada and the United States, and her associated companies were instrumental in the initial market development of South Africa, Middle East, Costa Rica, Brazil, Malaysia, Japan and Mexico.
Since 2008, Helen has been researching the pain/anxiety/insomnia and depression models of care within the USA and exploring ways to design an evidence-based approach to patient-centered care. In 2012 Helen assisted Boston University in an IRB-approved study using non-invasive neuromodulation therapy to treat anxiety disorder, a condition commonly associated with chronic pain.
From 2010, Mrs. Hussey served for two years on the Board of Chronic Pain Australia (www.chronicpainaustralia.org.au), one of five organizations that developed Australia’s National Pain Strategy (http://www.painaustralia.org.au/improving-policy/national-pain-strategy). Helen was selected to be one of only 300 Australian healthcare professionals to participate in the National Pain Summit in March 2010 at the Australian government’s Parliament House in Canberra. Moreover Mrs. Hussey was on the management team that delivered Australia’s inaugural National Pain Week in 2011. Australia was the global leader in recognizing the significant burden of chronic pain felt throughout society. As a result of the National Pain Summit in March 2010, other countries soon followed Australia’s lead in developing national pain strategies. The US released it’s national pain strategy in March 2016, following five years of research since the publication of a report by the Institute of Medicine that offered recommendations “to increase the recognition of pain as a significant public health problem in the United States.”
As a leader, Mrs. Hussey has demonstrated an extraordinary ability to create key networks and invaluable connections among medical industry leaders. These connections, individually and collectively, have furthered her ability to expand the market awareness of non-invasive neuromodulation throughout the US.
Following the ten years of specialized experience gained while leading the predecessor companies, Mrs. Hussey saw the need for greater control over a homogeneously-marketed, trademark-protected product range. In answer to this, Helen co-founded ENSr Medical, Inc. in July 2013, and assembled an experienced executive team along with a diverse and accomplished business and advisory board. Prior to her involvement in the neuromodulation field, Mrs. Hussey spent ten years as a successful entrepreneur in Sydney’s hospitality industry.
Mrs. Hussey received her B.A. degree from the University of Technology; Sydney, Australia.
