Michael Higgins has a diverse work experience in the field of environmental science. Michael is currently working as a Fisheries Biologist at Environmental Science Associates since March 2022. In 2020, Michael worked at the Washington Department of Fish & Wildlife as a Scientific Technician 3 in the Fish Passage Division. Michael'sresponsibilities included conducting on-site evaluations. Michael was employed there from July 2020 to July 2021.

From December 2019 to June 2020, Michael worked as a Scientific Technician 2 at The Puyallup Tribe of Indians. Michael was responsible for maintaining and monitoring rotary screw traps in rivers and collecting data on various fish species.

In 2019, Michael was a Scientific Technician at Tacoma Power, where they focused on characterizing and quantifying habitat in the Skokomish River and its tributaries. Michael'swork included habitat monitoring and fish passage monitoring.

Michael's work experience also includes an internship as a Project Intern at Hood Canal Salmon Enhancement Group from March 2018 to June 2019.

Michael Higgins attended The Evergreen State College from 2016 to 2018, where they earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Environmental Science. In addition to their degree, Michael has obtained several certifications. In 2018, they received a certification in Swift-water Rescue from the Washington State Department of Ecology. In 2019, they obtained a Healthcare, First Aid & Bloodborne Pathogens Combo certification from Tacoma Fire Department. Michael received their Forage Fish Training Certification from the Washington Department of Fish & Wildlife in 2022. Michael obtained three certifications in 2023, including WDFW Level A/B training from the Washington Department of Fish & Wildlife, WSDOT Fish Passage Restoration and Engineering Design from the Washington State Department of Transportation, and WSDOT Junior Biological Assessment (BA) Author, also from the Washington State Department of Transportation.
