James G. Mekker

Senior Software Engineer II at Equity Engineering Group

Mr. Mekker is involved in the development and validation of E2G’s proprietary software API RBI, the benchmark tool for RBI.

Mr. Mekker functioned as project manager for risk-based inspection (RBI) implementation and mentoring for the first 7 years with E2G.

Mr. Mekker leads the development of E2G’s Damage Screening Tool. The Damage Screening tool uses API 571: Damage Mechanisms Affecting Fixed Equipment in the Refining Industry to help identify potential damage mechanisms. Furthermore, the Damage Screening tool estimates damage susceptibilities for corrosion and cracking susceptibilities based on industry experts’ judgment. As a result, the Damage Screening tool is a simple and easy-to-use aid to help implementers assign damage for refining and chemical equipment.

Mr. Mekker lead the development of a user-friendly version of PRD RBI called PRDWise. PRDWise utilizes all the technology of API 581 but makes conservative assumptions for complex data requirements. This method has made inspection planning easier for implementers.

Mr. Mekker is an instructor for API 580/581 and the E2G proprietary software. He is a highly-rated software instructor and has co-taught numerous software courses in the United States, Canada, the Middle East, and Australia. His involvement with the development of both the API 581 methodology and the E2G PlantManager™ software provides the class with in-depth knowledge of the ongoing research and development within both areas.
