John Watkins

John Watkins is the current Head of Materials at ESTAT Actuation. John was previously with LumiShield Technologies from January 2016 to July 2021, where they served as a Senior Scientist. John is a key innovator in the development of coatings technology and was responsible for proposal writing, technical presentations, and project management as well as being a leader in R&D operations. John is a creative problem solver who quickly adapts to challenges and formulates a technical strategy to test and improve coatings systems for customers. John is also an entrepreneur who focuses on non-dilutive fundraising efforts through government grant writing, resulting in the raising of over $1.5 Million in funding for R&D. In addition, they are a skilled communicator who has written 2 trade articles and given upwards of 6 technical presentations per year to diverse audiences ranging from the military to coatings experts. Finally, they have a commercial focus and has collaborated with the company's patent attorney to write 3 key patent applications to safeguard LumiShield's commercial viability.

John Watkins has a PhD in Chemistry from the University of Bath and an MChem in Chemistry from the same school. John also has a certification from AESF - Puget Sound Branch in Certified Electroplater-Finisher (CEF).
