Mats Larsson

Director - Head of Coatings and Productivity Core Technology Center at Eugenus

Mats Larsson has a diverse and extensive work experience spanning several companies and roles. Mats began their career as an Associate Professor at Karlstad University, where they were responsible for overseeing the teaching duties and budget of the physics department. During this time, they also conducted research on heteroepitaxy of insulator/metal multilayers.

Later on, Mats joined Stanford University as a Visiting Associate Professor in Materials Science, where they contributed to a project focused on increasing the information density on computer hard discs. Mats developed a kinetic Monte Carlo simulation code and used it to model strain-assisted self-assembly of nano-patterned metal and semiconductor quantum-dot structures.

After their time at Stanford, Mats transitioned to industry and worked at Nanostellar, Inc. as a Principal Scientist. Mats played a crucial role in the initial planning of the company and was involved in hiring key personnel. Mats also managed various projects aimed at developing new characterization methodologies for nanocatalysts.

Mats then joined MiaSolé as a Lead Scientist, where they were responsible for developing advanced device characterization methodologies for CIGS-based solar cells. Mats also invented new types of solar cells to improve performance by incorporating nanoparticles and nanostructures.

Following their time at MiaSolé, Mats worked as a Principal Scientist at OneSun Solar, leading a project focused on the development of novel absorber transition metal dichalcogenide materials for thin film photovoltaics. Mats coordinated cross-functional R&D teams from research institutions and companies across North America and Europe.

After that, Mats joined Applied Materials as a Senior Materials Scientist. In this role, they were responsible for both experimental and modeling-simulation advanced surface technology projects. Mats managed a cross-functional program involving collaboration with Cornell University and Applied Materials' computational-aided engineering team, which resulted in the development of multiple products.

Mats then worked as an Expert Consultant at their own company, Mats Larsson, providing consulting services in various technical fields from 2019 to 2020. Mats also briefly worked at RTI Group, LLC as an Expert in semiconductor technology, materials engineering, and nanotechnology.

Currently, Mats holds the position of Director and Head of Coatings and Productivity Core Technology Center at Eugenus, Inc. Mats has been responsible for building and leading the center since its inception in July 2020. Mats also develops and executes the center's strategy and leads a cross-functional organization with teams in the US and Korea.

Mats Larsson holds a PhD in Materials Science from Linköping University. Mats also received a Master's degree in Physics from the same university. In addition, Mats received training as a Sergeant from Artillery Regiment A1 in Linköping. After completing their formal education, Mats pursued a Post Doc in Solid State Physics at Leibniz Universität Hannover.

Mats has also obtained various certifications from Coursera, including a Materials Science for Advanced Technological Applications Specialization in January 2023, Managing the Organization in March 2022, and several creativity and innovation-related courses in 2022 and 2021. Mats has also taken courses in business strategy, negotiation, leadership, and data science.

It is worth noting that the timing and duration of Mats' degrees and certifications are not provided, so the exact timeline of their education cannot be determined.
