Karen Salinas has a diverse work experience spanning various roles and industries. Starting in 2008, they worked as a Cashier at La Casita until 2013. From 2012 to 2014, they served as a Tutor at DC Reads. In 2014, they became a Federal Work Study Student at the Academic Support and Access Center until 2016. During this time, they also worked as a Project Consultant at La Clinica del Pueblo in 2016. In the same year, they interned at the Hepatitis Foundation International as a Public Health Intern and at HIPS as a Direct Services Intern. In 2015, they worked as a Research Assistant at the Aetna Foundation. In 2016, they joined the San Diego State University's Institute for Public Health as a Research Assistant. Karen continued working at the university as a Sexual Assault Prevention Intern and a Graduate Teaching Assistant in 2017. Finally, in 2018, they joined Evergreen Treatment Services as the LEAD Screening & Outreach Coordinator. Karen later became the LEAD Program Supervisor and is currently serving as the Director of Outreach.

Karen Salinas completed their education at San Diego State University from 2016 to 2018, where they obtained a Master of Public Health (MPH) degree with a specialization in Health Promotion and Behavioral Science. Prior to that, they attended American University from 2012 to 2016, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree in Public Health. During their time at American University, they pursued minors in Health Promotion and Biology.

In addition to their academic achievements, Karen Salinas has also obtained several certifications. In 2017, they received the Certification for Institutional Review Board Professional (CIP) from the CITI Program, A Division of BRANY. In 2015, they acquired the PEAF certification from the Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service, along with certifications in HazMat and Emergency Medical Technician. Furthermore, they obtained their CPR certification in 2014 from the American Heart Association | American Stroke Association.
