Managing Engineer at Exponent

Alex Zelhofer, Ph.D., P.E. has a diverse work experience spanning several companies and roles.

From 2017 onwards, they have been working at Exponent, starting as an Associate and progressing to become a Senior Associate, Senior Engineer, and currently, a Managing Engineer.

In 2019, Zelhofer also worked as a Lecturer - Machine Design at Loyola Marymount University.

Prior to that, they were a Ph.D. candidate and Graduate Researcher at Caltech from 2012 to 2017. In this role, they collaborated with research groups, developed finite element programs, and used ABAQUS and Python scripts for analysis. Alex also mentored international researchers and trained fellow graduate researchers.

Additionally, Zelhofer worked as an undergraduate research assistant at MSOE Rapid Prototyping Research from 2011 to 2012, where they utilized CFD, FEA, and hydrocode methods for prediction and validation. Alex also worked as a Composites Intern at NASA Dryden Flight Research Center in 2011.

Before that, they held multiple roles at Milwaukee School of Engineering, including Chairman of MSOE Chapter of Society of Automotive Engineers, CEO of SAE SuperMileage, and Undergraduate Research Assistant in the Rapid Prototyping Research (RPC) Department.

Zelhofer also has experience as a Laborer at the Winnebago County Parks Department in 2008.

Alex Zelhofer, Ph.D., P.E. obtained a High School Diploma from Oshkosh North High School in 2008. Alex then went on to receive a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from the Milwaukee School of Engineering in 2012. Following that, they pursued a Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering at Caltech from 2012 to 2014. Alex Zelhofer continued their education at Caltech and obtained a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Mechanical Engineering from 2014 to 2017.

In addition to their educational achievements, Alex Zelhofer has obtained several certifications. In March 2019, they became a Professional Engineer (PE) through the Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors, and Geologists. In March 2020, they achieved certification as an IFPS Certified Fluid Power Hydraulic Specialist from the International Fluid Power Society. Alex also holds an OSHA 40-Hour Hazardous Waste Operations Worker (HAZWOPER) certification obtained in October 2017. The institution associated with this certification is not specified.
