Ian Goodfellow

Vice President - Antivirals at Exscientia

Ian Goodfellow's work experience includes roles at various organizations. In 1996, they were a Postdoctoral Fellow at the University of Reading, where they focused on studying RNA virus-host interactions. Ian then worked as a Postdoctoral Fellow at the University of Glasgow from 1999 to 2003. From 2003 to 2005, they served as a Lecturer in Virology at the University of Reading, followed by a position as a Reader in Virology at Imperial College London from 2006 to 2012. Goodfellow then joined Public Health England in 2014 as the Ebola Response diagnostic lab lead, responsible for managing a lab team providing diagnostic support during the West African Ebola response. In 2017, they worked as a WHO GOARN Consultant, leading a team in investigating an outbreak of necrotizing fasciitis in Sao Tome & Principe. Ian also had roles at the Cambridge Lighthouse national COVID-19 testing laboratory and the Cambridge Lighthouse COVID-19 national testing laboratory, where they served as an Academic Line Lead and a Subject Matter Expert, respectively. Most recently, they joined Exscientia in 2022 as the Vice President - Antivirals.

Ian Goodfellow earned a BSc in Microbiology and Virology from the University of Warwick between 1990 and 1993. Ian then pursued a Ph.D. at the University of Nottingham from 1993 to 1996.
