Tjelvar Olsson

Tjelvar Olsson has a diverse work experience in various roles and companies. Tjelvar is currently working at Exscientia as the Associate Director of Research Computing since October 2023. Prior to this, they held the position of Senior DevOps Engineer at Exscientia from March 2022 to October 2023, where they built and led a high-performing team, stabilized and scaled the Prefect workflow orchestration platform, and developed Exscientia's capabilities in HPC. Before that, from January 2022 to March 2022, they worked as a Senior Scientific IT Engineer at Exscientia.

Prior to joining Exscientia, Tjelvar worked at John Innes Centre as the Senior Scientific Data and Infrastructure Manager from April 2018 to April 2021. In this role, they managed the institute's interactions with the centralised HPC team, developed and taught HPC training courses, and gained certification in Coaching and Mentoring. Before that, from August 2014 to April 2018, they worked as the Scientific Computing Laboratory Manager at John Innes Centre, providing scientific computing support and developing software to improve the efficiency of bioimage analysis support.

Tjelvar's earlier work experience includes working at Cambridge Crystallographic Data Centre. From March 2013 to August 2014, they held the position of Senior Research and Applications Scientist, managing staff members and leading research efforts on using crystal structure data in drug discovery. Prior to this, from October 2008 to March 2013, they worked as a Research and Applications Scientist at the same company, conducting scientific research, interacting with customers, and contributing to software and database releases.

Tjelvar Olsson completed a Ph.D. in Biochemistry from UCL from 2004 to 2008. Prior to this, they obtained a First-class honours B.Sc. in Biochemistry from UCL, which they completed from 2001 to 2004.
