Nishanthini Terumalai is an experienced project manager specializing in Business and Human Rights, currently managing a diverse portfolio at the Fair Labor Association since November 2021. Nishanthini also serves as a National Project Coordinator for the International Labour Organization since June 2021. Fair Labor Association is an international organization that combines the efforts of industry, civil society organizations, and colleges and universities to protect workers’ rights and improve working conditions worldwide by promoting adherence to international labor standards.In 1996, President Clinton assembled a meeting of multinationalcompanies and non-governmental organizations at the White House and challenged them to work together to improve working conditions in the apparel and footwear industries. This group became the Fair Labor Association, a 501(c)3 non-profit organization.Based on International Labor standards, Fair Labor Association has developed a Workplace Code of Conduct, and created a practical monitoring, remediation and verification process to attain those standards.Fair Labor Association conducts independent monitoring and verification to ensure that its Workplace Standards are maintained. Through public reporting, it provides consumers and shareholders with reliable information to make responsible buying decisions.Fair Labor Association offers a mechanism to address serious labor rights violations through the Third Party Complaint process.Fair Labor Association was incorporated in 1999 and is headquartered in Washington, D.C., with offices in China, Switzerland, and Turkey.
