Mikael Kalms

CTO at Fall Damage Studio AB

Mikael Kalms has a diverse work experience in various roles within the gaming industry. Mikael started their career as a Graphics Programmer at DICE (EA Digital Illusions CE AB) in 1998 and worked on implementing software-rendering backends. Mikael then worked at Twilight 3D Oy Ltd as a Graphics Programmer, where they implemented 2D and 3D software-rendering backends in assembly.

In 2000, Mikael worked at Nixxes Software BV as a Graphics Programmer, where they contributed to projects like "Soul Reaver 2" and "Soul Reaver" (Dreamcast version). Mikael continued their work as a Programmer at DICE, taking on roles such as Graphics Programmer and later as a Programmer, focusing on developing and launching games like Battlefield 4 and Battlefield Hardline.

In 2009, Mikael became the Technical Director at DICE Operations, where they led the Operations department and focused on fostering a positive culture, guiding engineers' professional development, and facilitating collaboration between teams. The team successfully launched Battlefield 4 and Battlefield Hardline while operating older titles.

During their time at NHTV Breda University of Applied Sciences from 2015 to 2016, Mikael worked as a Lecturer, assisting and mentoring students in game development and helping them specialize in their areas of interest.

Mikael currently works as the CTO at Fall Damage, a position they have held since 2016.

Mikael Kalms pursued their education at Linköping University, where they studied Computer Science with a major in Electrical Engineering. Mikael began their studies in 1998 and successfully completed their degree, obtaining an M. Sc. in 2015.
