Jacob Penney has a diverse work experience, starting from 2015 when they worked as a Community Research Assistant at Apnalaya, where they conducted qualitative research on the effectiveness of a water purification plant in Mumbai. Jacob also served as a Line Cook at Venus Restaurant, where they organized dishes and maintained consistency in food production. Jacob was a Research Fellow at the Essig Museum of Entomology, where they collected foliage and eggs and identified morphological differences in Phasmid species. Jacob then worked as a Secretary at the Anthropology Undergraduate Association, recording meeting minutes and proposing the idea of a monthly academic newsletter. Jacob also served as a Medical Scribe at NewMD Urgent Care, where they assisted with worker's compensation insurance claims and maintained patient records. Jacob currently holds a position as a Software Engineer at Farmer's Business Network, Inc.

Jacob Penney completed their Associate of Arts (A.A.) degree in Psychology at Sierra College from 2011 to 2014. Jacob then attended the University of California, Berkeley from 2014 to 2016, where they obtained a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degree in Anthropology. In 2017, Jacob attended Hack Reactor for Computer Software Engineering, although they did not receive a specific degree from this institution.
