John Becker

John Becker has a diverse work experience spanning several companies. John is currently serving as the Vice President of Engineering at Fastly, where they lead a team in supporting various platforms and services. Prior to this, they held the role of Sr. Director of Engineering at Fastly, overseeing a team that supported platforms across Observability, Cloud, Kubernetes, Configuration Management, Hardware Automation, Release Engineering, PKI, and Secrets Management.

Before joining Fastly, John was the Director of Cloud Infrastructure and Site Reliability Engineering at FireEye, Inc. John managed multiple teams for Shared Cloud Infrastructure and Endpoint Security SRE management, ensuring compliance with SOC2 and FedRAMP standards. Prior to this, they held positions as Sr. Manager and Manager of Cloud Operations SRE at FireEye, where they led the support of AWS-based application platforms.

John also has experience working at Mandiant as a DevOps Architect and at Symantec as the System Management Platform Lead. At Symantec, they designed and deployed an automation pipeline for application and OS deployments, focusing on scalability and security best practices.

Earlier in their career, John worked at HP Enterprise Services as a Technology Consultant, providing technical oversight for large consumer-focused eCommerce and Digital Rights Management systems. John also served as a Sr. Principal Infrastructure Specialist at Symantec Corporation, managing changes and incidents for consumer entitlement and anti-piracy systems.

John's career began at Symantec, where they worked as a System Administrator, responsible for maintaining Windows servers and serving as a point of contact for business. John also designed and implemented separate networks for product support groups.

Throughout their career, John has demonstrated their expertise in engineering, reliability, operations, cloud, and more. John has also co-hosted the Pragmatic Ops Weekly podcast, discussing topics related to engineering and operations in the tech industry.

John Becker earned a Masters Certificate in Cybersecurity Engineering Core from the SANS Technology Institute from 2016 to 2017. Prior to that, they obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Information Systems from Linfield University, which they attended from 2002 to 2006. In addition to their degrees, John has also obtained several certifications, including the GIAC Certified Intrusion Analyst (GCIA) from the Global Information Assurance Certification (GIAC) in June 2017, the GIAC Certified Incident Handler (GCIH) from GIAC in November 2016, the GIAC Security Essentials Certification (GSEC Gold) from GIAC in May 2016, and the CISSP from ISC2 in December 2002.
