Laura Thomson

Laura Thomson has a diverse and extensive work experience spanning various roles and industries. Laura currently serves as the Senior Vice President of Engineering at Fastly since December 2021, where they previously held the position of Vice President of Engineering, Platform from March 2020 to December 2021.

Prior to their role at Fastly, Laura was a Board Trustee at Internet Society starting from August 2020.

Laura'sbackground also includes working at Pearson Education as an Author, primarily known for their bestselling book "PHP and MySQL Web Development" and "MySQL Tutorial". Laura started their tenure at Pearson Education in 2000.

Laura spent a significant portion of their career at Mozilla, where they held several leadership positions. Laura served as the Senior Director of Engineering, Firefox Engineering Operations from February 2017 to March 2020, and as the Director of Engineering, Firefox Engineering Operations from February 2015 to February 2017. Prior to that, they were the Director of Engineering Operations from August 2014 to February 2015 and Sr. Engineering Manager, Web Engineering and Release Engineering from an unspecified date to July 2014. Laura started their journey at Mozilla as a Senior Software Engineer from September 2007 to December 2010.

Laura has also been involved with various organizations, including the Internet Security Research Group as a Board Member from January 2016 to March 2020, and OmniTI where they served as Principal (VP) for a brief period from November 2006 to August 2007. Laura also held the role of Director of Web Development from April 2006 to November 2006, and Senior Web Developer from August 2005 to April 2006 at OmniTI.

Additionally, Laura has worked as a Lecturer at RMIT University from July 1999 to August 2005 and co-founded Tangled Web Design, where they served as the Co-founder/Principal Consultant from January 1998 to August 2005. Prior to that, they worked as a Researcher at i-cubed from January 1998 to July 1999.

Laura Thomson's career began at the Boston Consulting Group, where they worked as an Associate from December 1996 to January 1998.

Laura Thomson has a strong education background in the field of Computer Science. Laura first attended RMIT University, where they obtained a Bachelor of Applied Science degree with Distinction. Laura further pursued their studies in Computer Science at RMIT University and started a Ph.D. degree, although it remains incomplete. Additionally, Laura achieved a Bachelor of Engineering degree with First Class Honours in Computer Systems Engineering from RMIT University.

Aside from their formal education, Laura Thomson has also obtained a certification as a Wilderness First Responder from NOLS Wilderness Medicine in March 2020.
