Laura Kam

Laura is a graduate of the University of Virginia (B.A.) and the George Washington University Law School (J.D.), where she served as the Executive Managing Editor of George Washington International Law Review. Laura joins us from DLA Piper LLP, one of the world’s largest and most respected law firms, where she was a founding and long-tenured lawyer in their Phoenix office. At DLA, Laura’s law practice focused on complex business disputes, defense of government investigations, and antitrust and employment law counseling. Laura is a former Chair of the Antitrust Section of the Arizona State Bar, and was recognizing as a “Rising Star” in Business Litigation by Southwest Super Lawyers for four consecutive years in 2014-2017. Laura also previously practiced in the Washington, DC office of O’Melveny & Myers LLP.

Laura’s representative, public engagements include serving as lead U.S. antitrust counsel to international chemical giant INEOS Enterprises in its $1 billion acquisition of Ashland’s composites business, which successfully closed in August 2019 following a Federal Trade Commission (“FTC”) Second Request investigation, defense of False Claims Act qui tam litigation and related Department of Justice investigations on behalf of clients including Grand Canyon University and Universal Technical Institute, and successful enforcement of non-competition and non-solicitation restrictive covenants, including obtaining a Temporary Restraining Order on behalf of dental equipment manufacturer Nobel Biocare.

Laura has handled several large healthcare-related cases. These include defending one of the nation’s largest hospital operators in a FTC retrospective investigation of a consummated hospital merger, enforcement of physician restrictive covenant agreements on behalf of a specialty medical practice, and representing a healthcare REIT lessee in a multi-property right of first refusal exercise dispute. Laura also has an active pro bono practice, providing free or discounted legal services to those in need, including serving as the chief employment counsel for the Community Food Bank of Southern Arizona.

Laura, her husband Garrett, and two children Lee (5) and Amanda (3) live in McCormick Ranch in Scottsdale. Laura enjoys spending time with family and friends, home improvement projects, reading, and travel. When not working, she is usually on a soccer field with her son or driving her children to another activity.
