Kayla Leung

Kayla Leung has a diverse work experience. Kayla worked as a Software Engineer at Fathom starting in April 2023. Prior to that, they were a Software Engineer at Google, where they focused on the Cloud Pub/Sub team, supporting low latency async messaging service at scale for streaming analytics data pipeline ingestion and distribution. Kayla also worked on driving design discussions and collaborations with the privacy team to improve data exfiltration risk reduction. Additionally, they onboarded internal Pub/Sub users to Cloud Pub/Sub and extended Pub/Sub push endpoint protobuf config options for internal user customization. Before Google, Kayla was a Teaching Assistant at Carnegie Mellon University School of Computer Science for the course "15-122 Principles of Imperative Computation" from May 2019 to May 2022. Kayla had internships at Microsoft as a Software Engineering Intern for the M365 Global Sign Up team from July 2021 to October 2021, at Google for the Cloud Spanner team from April 2021 to July 2021, and at Datadog for the Data Eng Platform from January 2021 to April 2021. Kayla also interned as a Software Engineering Intern at Google for the Search Suggest team, where they designed and implemented a full-stack Custom Search web app with Knowledge Panel suggestions and user ratings for coding related queries. Kayla constructed and cached panel content server-side in Java using the Google Custom Search API. Furthermore, they interned as a Software Engineering Intern at Biomotivate in 2019 and as a Research Assistant at the CREATE Lab at Carnegie Mellon University from January 2019 to May 2019. Their earliest research experience was as a Research Assistant at the Transformative Learning Technologies Lab at Stanford University Graduate School of Education from August 2017 to May 2018.

Kayla Leung began their education in 2014 at Stanford Online High School, where they remained until 2018. During this time, they did not pursue a specific degree or field of study. In 2018, Kayla Leung enrolled at Carnegie Mellon University and is expected to graduate in 2022 with a Bachelor of Science degree. Their chosen field of study is Computer Science, with an additional major in Psychology.
