Zawadi Baharanyi is an accomplished legal professional with extensive experience in public defense and justice reform. Currently serving as an Assistant Federal Defender at Federal Defenders of New York Inc. since July 2019, Zawadi previously held the position of Prettyman Fellow at Georgetown University Law Center from August 2017 to July 2019. Zawadi's background includes a role as a Justice Fellow at the Equal Justice Initiative and research fellowship at Columbia University's Institute for Social and Economic Research and Policy. Additional experience encompasses serving as a Peer Advisor for Africa at Columbia University Office of Global Programs and interning with the Vera Institute of Justice and Orleans Public Defenders.
