Sean Croston

Assistant General Counsel at Federal Reserve

Sean Croston is currently the Assistant General Counsel at the Federal Reserve. Prior to this, they worked as an attorney at the Federal Trade Commission from April 2013 to January 2014, where they were responsible for ethics training, reviewing financial disclosure reports, post-employment requests, financial conflicts of interest, outside activities, FOIA appeals, professional responsibility, and miscellaneous administrative law projects. Sean also worked as an attorney at the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission from September 2007 to April 2013, where they were responsible for ethics training, financial disclosure, Hatch Act, gifts, post-employment, and criminal conflicts analyses; liaison with OIG; lead or co-counsel in several appellate lawsuits and administrative hearings before EEOC and Civilian Board of Contract Appeals; proposed and drafted agency rulemaking actions; key point of contact for FOIA/Privacy Act/Congressional requests for information, appropriations law, Congressional Review Act, and Administrative Procedure Act. Some of Sean's notable achievements include drafting the agency's response to Executive Orders regarding the regulatory review process (77 Fed. Reg. 21625 (2012)), being lead counsel in Vermont Dep’t of Pub. Serv. v. NRC (684 F.3d 189 (D.C. Cir. 2012)), and being lead counsel in Peterson v. NRC (411 Fed. Appx. 338 (D.C. Cir. 2011)).

Sean Croston attended the University of Rochester for their Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and Government. Afterward, they attended William & Mary for their Doctor of Law. Sean is certified by the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit and the Virginia State Bar.

Sean Croston reports to Mark E. Van Der Weide, General Counsel. They are on a team with Dafina Stewart - Assistant General Counsel, Charles Gray - Deputy General Counsel, and Richard M. Ashton - Deputy General Counsel.
