Christian S. Pitter

As director of the Global Health, Population and Nutrition (GHPN) practice, Dr. Christian Pitter is responsible for FHI 360’s global health portfolio, including Infectious Diseases and Health Systems, Global Health and Population Research, Science Facilitation, Product Development and Introduction, and Maternal and Child Health and Nutrition. He assumed his current position after two years as director of GHPN’s Infectious Diseases and Health Systems department, overseeing a global portfolio that included COVID-19 Response, HIV, Tuberculosis, Neglected Tropical Diseases, Health Systems Strengthening and Emerging Infectious Diseases.

Pitter came to FHI 360 from University Research Co. LLC (URC), where he served as chief of party and country director in Cambodia and later as senior technical advisor at the company’s home office, providing technical leadership and supporting business development across URC’s international portfolio. Prior to that, he spent eight years at the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation leading development of program standards and technical and programmatic partnerships as senior director of global technical policy and partnerships. Earlier in his career he was the principal advisor to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s antiretroviral treatment program in Uganda, which included leading the CDC’s efforts in establishing and expanding national HIV care and treatment programs in Uganda under PEPFAR (the U.S. President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief). He was also an assistant adjunct professor at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF), holding a joint appointment in the Institute for Global Health and the Department of Pediatrics.

A graduate of Yale University, where he majored in biology, Pitter has a master’s degree in public health from Harvard University’s T.H. Chan School of Public Health and a medical degree from Emory University’s School of Medicine. He completed his internship and residency in the Department of Pediatrics at UCSF and returned to UCSF as a post-doctoral fellow at the Center for AIDS Prevention Studies.
