Tim Barrass has a diverse work experience spanning from research and development to senior engineering roles. Tim started their career in 2002 as a Research Fellow at the University of Bristol/CERN, where they worked until 2006. Tim then joined UBS as a Grid/distributed systems specialist, responsible for promoting grid adoption within Fixed Income and providing specialist advice on grid-related technologies. Tim worked at UBS until 2010 when they joined Credit Suisse as a freelance developer. At Credit Suisse, they focused on Front Office IR derivatives P&L and risk systems, utilizing C# 3.5/4, SQL Server, and SSAS, among other technologies.
In 2011, Tim moved to Lloyds Bank Corporate Markets, where they worked as a Developer in Credit Risk until 2016. Tim then transitioned to Lloyds Banking Group as a Team Lead for the Credit Risk Engine and held this position until 2019. Presently, Tim is working at FINBOURNE Technology as a Senior Engineer, starting in August 2019. Overall, Tim has diversified experience in various roles within the financial and technology sectors.
Tim Barrass has an extensive education history in the field of science and geophysics. Tim completed their PhD in Volcanology at the University of Bristol from 1998 to 2002. Prior to that, they earned an MSc in Advanced Geophysics from Durham University between 1997 and 1998. Tim obtained their undergraduate degree, a BSc (Hons.) in Physics, from the University of Exeter from 1994 to 1997. Additionally, they pursued a BTec in Foundation Fine Art and Design at the University for the Creative Arts in 1993 and 1994.
In terms of additional certifications, Tim has acquired knowledge in functional programming design and principles in Scala. Tim obtained the certification for "Functional Program Design in Scala" from Coursera in July 2018 and the certification for "Functional Programming Principles in Scala" from Coursera in May 2018.
