Betsy Lam

Senior Developer at Firebelly Design

Betsy is all about balance. A former collegiate gymnast and quintessential Libra, she treasures aesthetics and thrives when the dichotomous become harmonious. Multiracial, queer-identified, both artist and technologist, she’s a rock-climbing, nature-loving web developer. They do exist!

For the past 15 years, she’s built websites and apps across retail, marketing, education, and healthcare industries—her sweet spot projects that blend beautiful design with technological problem-solving. Betsy’s exhibited artwork from Chicago to San Francisco; her artwork and writing have also appeared in the much-loved-but-shuttered The Toast (selected by her hero Roxane Gay), and The New York Times Bestseller Soul Pancake (edited by Rainn Wilson). She’s written about serendipitously stumbling into web development and was invited to speak as a panelist at General Assembly events #ilooklikeadeveloper and Intersection of Design & Technology.

Betsy earned a BA in Journalism and BFA in Painting from the University of Iowa, and an MFA in Painting from the San Francisco Art Institute.
