Sean Smith

Sean Smith has a diverse and extensive work experience in the field of chemistry and bioconjugate chemistry. Sean currently holds the position of Vice President Bioconjugate Chemistry at Firefly Biologics since November 2022. Prior to this, they served as the Executive Director of Chemistry and Bioconjugate Chemistry at Silverback Therapeutics from January 2021 to August 2022, and as the Senior Director of Chemistry and Bioconjugate Chemistry from August 2017 to January 2021. Sean also worked at Abzena as the Senior Director of Bioconjugate Chemistry from December 2015 to August 2017. Before that, they held various roles at The Chemistry Research Solution LLC - An Abzena Company, including Director of Bioconjugate Chemistry from January 2014 to December 2015 and Senior Principal Scientist from January 2013 to January 2014. Prior to joining Abzena, they worked at PTC Therapeutics as a Scientist II from December 2010 to June 2012 and as a Scientist I from June 2009 to December 2010. Sean started their career as a Graduate Research Assistant at MIT from September 2004 to May 2009. Sean also gained experience through internships at Replidyne in Medicinal Chemistry in 2004 and 2003, and at Array BioPharma Inc. in Lead Generation Chemistry and Analytical Chemistry in 2002. Sean Smith began their academic journey as an Undergraduate Research Assistant at the University of Colorado at Boulder from August 2002 to June 2003.

Sean Smith completed their B.A. in Chemistry and Biochemistry at the University of Colorado Boulder from 2000 to 2004. Sean then pursued a Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, where they studied from 2004 to 2009.
