Justin Alvin is a software engineer who currently works for Firefly Health. Prior to joining Firefly Health, Justin worked as a data scientist for Hindsait, Inc. from June 2019 to September 2020. At Hindsait, Justin was responsible for implementing clinical natural language processing (NLP) algorithms to analyze medical text and extract key information from doctors' notes. Justin also planned and implemented the architecture for highly-secure web APIs in Python and designed frontend functionality to visualize medical records, with an emphasis on user experience.
Before their work at Hindsait, Justin was a research scientist at the University of Washington from September 2018 to September 2020. Their research focused on machine learning (ML) and they implemented and optimized ML classifiers in Python to assist software engineers in using mutation analysis tools during software testing. Justin also developed semi-supervised active learning protocols to improve developer’s workflow and facilitate the writing of useful tests for their code. In addition, they researched procedures and methods for enhancing accuracy and precision of ML models including use of principle component analysis and class balancing techniques.
Justin Alvin has a Master of Science in Computer Science from the University of Massachusetts Amherst and a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Brandeis University.
