Paul Symons

Principal Data Architect at First Mode

Paul Symons has had a diverse work experience spanning multiple industries and roles. Starting in 2001, they worked as a Junior Application Developer at Grampian Software. Paul then moved on to Paradigm Geophysical, where they served as an Application Developer for the OpsLink application. Paul also worked as an Independent Contractor at Paradigm Geophysical and Paul Symons.

In 2007, Paul joined COA Solutions Ltd as an Application Developer on a contract basis. Paul then transitioned to Super U Holdings, where they served as a Senior Development Lead. From 2009 to 2010, they worked as a Senior Developer and Development Team Leader at Titan Interactive.

In 2011, Paul joined Bankwest as a Java Developer and later took on roles as a Risk Analyst and a Tech Lead. Paul also served as a Stay-at-Home Parent during this time. In 2016, they became a Java/Strategy Manager Developer and introduced automated regeneration and building of Strategy Manager Java interfaces.

In 2018, Paul joined Mechanical Rock as a Principal Consultant, leading the Data Pillar. In 2019, they transitioned to the role of Principal Consultant and Data Pillar Lead. In 2022, they joined First Mode as a Principal Data Architect, leading the design and implementation of their Data Lake and Cloud Data Platform.

Throughout their career, Paul has demonstrated strong technical skills in areas such as Java, Spring, SOAP, and automated testing. Paul has also shown a commitment to mentoring and collaboration within their teams.

Paul Symons completed their Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science from Heriot-Watt University from 1997 to 2000. Paul also obtained multiple certifications from Amazon Web Services (AWS), including AWS Certified DevOps Engineer - Professional in May 2019, AWS Certified SysOps Administrator - Associate in August 2018, AWS Certified Developer - Associate in June 2018, and AWS Certified Data Analytics - Specialty in July 2020.
