About the role

As our first Finance team member, you will play a pivotal role in establishing and managing the financial processes essential for the smooth operation of our business. You will be responsible for handling day-to-day financial tasks such as bill payments while also taking the lead in developing comprehensive financial operations (FinOps) processes. Additionally, you will collaborate closely with the executive team in building, for example, business plans and closing books to support our growth trajectory.

Who are we looking for:

We are looking for risk-takers with diverse experience who can provide fearless feedback.

You will have the following duties:

  • Financial Operations: Manage and execute day-to-day financial operations including but not limited to:

    • Processing vendor invoices and payments
    • Reconciling bank statements with our bookkeeper
    • Monitoring accounts payable and receivable
    • Managing expense reports and reimbursements
    • Ensuring compliance with financial regulations and company policies
  • FinOps Process Development: Design, implement, and optimize FinOps processes including:

    • Purchase order creation, approval workflows, and tracking
    • Expense management systems and policies
    • Financial reporting mechanisms to track spending and budget adherence
    • Streamlining financial processes to enhance efficiency and transparency
  • Strategic Financial Planning: Collaborate with the executive team to:

    • Develop comprehensive business plans, forecasts, and financial models
    • Analyze financial data to provide insights for strategic decision-making
    • Assist in fundraising activities by preparing financial projections and presentations for potential investors
  • Financial Reporting and Analysis: Prepare and present accurate and timely financial reports including:

    • Monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements
    • Variance analysis and explanations
    • Key performance indicators (KPIs) tracking and reporting
  • Cash Flow Management: Manage cash flow effectively by:

    • Monitoring cash balances and forecasting cash needs
    • Implementing cash flow optimization strategies
    • Coordinating with relevant stakeholders to ensure liquidity and financial stability

You should meet the following requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or related field
  • Minimum 4 years of experience in finance or accounting roles in a startup environment
  • Proven experience in handling day-to-day financial tasks such as bill payments, invoicing, and reconciliations
  • Strong understanding of financial principles, accounting practices, and regulatory requirements
  • Proficiency in financial modeling, analysis, and reporting tools (e.g., Excel, Xero, or similar software)
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across teams
  • Detail-oriented with a high level of accuracy and integrity in financial reporting
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic startup environment
  • Not hesitant to get hands dirty and do whatever is necessary to ensure success
