Kathleen Amm

Director National High Magnetic Field Laboratory at Florida State University

Kathleen Amm serves as the Director of the National High Magnetic Field Laboratory at both Florida State University and the National High Magnetic Field Laboratory since May 2024. In this role, Kathleen leads efforts in high magnetic field science and engineering, overseeing multiple facilities, including those at Los Alamos National Laboratory and the University of Florida. Prior to this, Kathleen directed the Magnet Division at Brookhaven National Laboratory from October 2018 to July 2024, focusing on superconducting magnet technology. Kathleen's extensive experience at GE Research spans from December 1998 to October 2018, where responsibilities included program management in superconducting technologies and overseeing multiple teams to innovate in medical and energy applications. Kathleen holds a Ph.D. in Physics from Florida State University and a Bachelor's degree in Theoretical and Mathematical Physics from the University of Toronto.
