Technical Lead, Data Visualisation at Flourish

Hugh Kennedy has a diverse work experience in various roles related to technical development and programming. Hugh started their career as a freelance web developer and creative in 2009. Hugh then worked as a web developer for Present Company Pty Ltd and handled projects for clients such as Qantas and The Rolling Stones. In 2013, they joined Small Multiples as a frontend developer, where they developed visualizations and improved open-source workflows.

In 2014, Hugh worked as a frontend developer for require.io, collaborating on WebMango, a web-based frontend for ANU's NCI supercomputer. Hugh also worked as a JavaScript/WebGL developer for NodeSource, specializing in enterprise software products and services.

From 2015 to 2016, Hugh worked as a WebGL developer at Jam3, where they built WebGL components for projects such as Vikings: A World Revealed. In 2016, they joined Google Creative Lab (Xpand Group) as a creative technologist with expertise in graphics programming, computer vision, and web development.

Hugh then joined Grumpy Sailor Creative in 2017 as a creative technologist, where they applied their skills in various domains. Hugh also worked as a realtime VFX programmer for ŻfinMalta Dance Ensemble, developing a custom particle system and OSC layer for projected visuals.

Finally, since 2019, Hugh has been working at Flourish as a senior WebGL developer and technical lead for data visualization. Their responsibilities have included major projects, frontend testing tools, video export functionality, and technical integration. During their time at Flourish, the company was acquired by Canva and integrated with a large international company.

Hugh Kennedy completed their Bachelor's Degree in Design in Photography and Situated Media from the University of Technology Sydney from 2010 to 2013. Hugh then pursued a Master's Degree in Playable Experience Design and Indie Games at Goldsmiths, University of London, from 2017 to 2018.
