Alastair Hewitt

Alastair Hewitt has over 30 years of work experience in various roles within the technology industry. Starting in 1989, they worked as a Production Engineer at Modern Security Systems, where they developed a test system for telecom electronics and was involved in production engineering for electronic manufacturing systems.

In 1993, Alastair joined Motorola as a GSM Systems Engineer, conducting software QA and field-testing for the Motorola GSM BSC and OMC software. Alastair also redeveloped the test system for the Motorola GSM transcoder board.

In 1996, Alastair moved to Nextel Communications, where they served as a Manager/Software Engineer for Telecom OSS Technology. Alastair'sresponsibilities included strategic and technical development of service assurance OSS technology, resolving scalability issues in fault management systems, and developing and deploying the first national uptime reporting system for iDEN radio infrastructure.

Alastair joined Iconomy.com in 2000 as a Senior Software Developer for a short period before transitioning to Nextel Communications again as a Software Engineering Consultant. In this role, they developed Network Management Tools for Nextel field operations, including a WAP application and J2EE Server development using Tomcat, JDBC, and custom APIs for legacy telecoms equipment integration.

From 2004 to 2007, Alastair worked at Augur Systems as a Principle Software Engineer, where they developed, deployed, and supported carrier-class Network Management Systems for Nextel field operations. Alastair used Java to develop web and desktop applications and utilized J2EE Server development with Tomcat, XML/XSD, SNMP, and MIB compilation.

In 2007, Alastair started working at 4DK Technologies, Inc as a Principle Software Architect. Here, they served as a development manager and software architect for all 4DK products, as well as software consulting projects. These projects focused on telecom infrastructure using carrier-grade Linux, high-availability middleware, and in-memory databases, with integration covering VOIP, IMS, and Web 2.0.

Alastair's most recent work experience is with Radius Networks Inc., where they have been employed as a Senior Engineer since 2014. Further details about their roles and responsibilities in this position are not provided.

Alastair Hewitt has a diverse education history. Alastair attended Solihull Sixth Form College from 1984 to 1986, where they studied math, physics, and electronics. After completing their studies at Solihull, they enrolled at the University of Sunderland from 1986 to 1989, focusing on digital systems engineering. Alastair then pursued a degree program in mathematics and computation at Harvard Extension School from 2006 to 2010.

In addition to their formal education, Alastair also obtained a certification as a National Beer Judge from the Beer Judge Certification Program in July 2011.
