Ian Smith has over 13 years of work experience in the aviation industry. Ian began their career in 2008 as a Consultant for Thomas Cook, where they advised on a complete re-organisation of the supply chain function and led the re-tender of the rotable component support agreements. In 2010, they took on the role of Consultant for British Airways plc. In 2012, Ian became Head of Business Development at PDQ Airspares. In 2014, they held the roles of Associate Consultant at Avisa Aviation Safety Systems and Consultant at Qatar Airways. Ian also served as Director of Engineering and Maintenance at Flybe during this time. In 2016, Ian took on the roles of Director of Commercial Strategy, VP Commercial, and Key Account Director at AJW Group. In 2021, they became Technical Director and Nominated Person Continuing Airworthiness at flypop and Senior Advisor - Engineering and Maintenance at CAPA India.

Ian Smith completed their MBA at Henley Business School from 1999 to 2001, focusing on business, strategy, leadership and management. Prior to this, they achieved a BEng 2.1 in Aeronautical Engineering from The University of Manchester between 1988 and 1991.
