Matthew Smith

Structures Director at FM Conway

Matthew Smith was appointed Structures Director in September 2018. Matthew is responsible for the management of the day to day running of the Structures Division, ensuring our contracts are delivered safely, on time and to the desired levels of quality; whilst ensuring our turnover and forecast margins are continually meeting and exceeding set targets.

Matthew achieved a BEng (Hons) in Engineering Surveying at Nottingham Trent University, also gaining valuable experience as a quarry surveyor at ARC Northern during his sandwich year. Following his degree, Matthew has acquired over 20 years’ experience working within the construction and civil engineering sector, spending a combined 10 years working for Alfred McAlpine Ltd and Ovenden Civil Engineering.

Since joining FM Conway in May 2007 as a Contracts Manager, Matthew has successfully held a wide array of roles including Senior Contracts Manager, Business Development Manager, Structures Manager (Conway AECOM) and Head of Building and Structures.

Overseeing and leading the development of large projects such as the Putney Bridge Refurbishment, Port of Dover TMI Gantry and development at the Western Access to Berkeley’s Southall Waterside, Matthew has facilitated huge growth for FM Conway’s Civil Engineering services.

Matthew’s great work and ambition has also seen him play a key role in the delivery of the Hogarth Bridge Refurbishment project, recognised and published within the New Civil Engineer publication.
