Sandra Moreno has a diverse work experience in the field of academia. Sandra is currently a member of the teaching faculty in the GSBS Graduate Program at The University of Texas Medical Branch. In 2018, they served as the Director of Master in Applied Human Embryology at Dipartimento di Scienze - Roma Tre. Prior to that, they worked as an Associate Professor at Università degli Studi Roma Tre, where they eventually became an Assistant Professor after joining in 2000. Sandra also held the position of Head of Laboratory "Neurodevelopmental Biology, Neurogenetics and Molecular Neurobiology" at Fondazione Santa Lucia since December 2020. In addition, they have experience as a Visiting Professor at The University of Texas Medical Branch and as a Visiting Research Scientist at West Virginia University. Earlier in their career, they served as the Head Teaching Assistant at Istituto Universitario di Scienze Motorie and as a Visiting PhD Student at the University of Connecticut.

Sandra Moreno obtained their Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in Cell Differentiation and Morphogenesis from Università degli Studi dell'Aquila from 1990 to 1994. Prior to that, they completed their Scienze Biologiche degree at Sapienza Università di Roma from 1984 to 1990. Sandra also holds additional certifications, including being recognized as a Top Italian Scientist by Top Italian Scientists in 2021 and receiving the AMETISTA (Progetti di Ricerca 2020) certification from Lazio Innova in July 2021.
