As a Robotics Field Service Engineer at Formic, you will be responsible for performing preventive maintenance, installations and corrective maintenance at customer sites. The ideal candidate will be detail-oriented and have a track record of building relationships with our customers and other members of the team. You will work alongside our customers, engineering team, suppliers and third party robotics integrators. You will need to be a self-starter who can manage their time effectively. The ideal candidate has 4+ years field experience working on six-axis industrial robots and is located in, or would be open to relocation to Chicago, Illinois.

As Field Service Engineer, you will:

  • Work on the forefront of robotics automation using Formic’s suite of monitoring and diagnostic capabilities to guide preventive, corrective, and predictive maintenance activities across Formic’s growing fleet of deployed robotic cells 
  • Demonstrate passion about robotics-centric automation, be energized by the variety of manufacturing settings they will encounter and will use their demonstrated troubleshooting and maintenance skills to meet and exceed customer expectations
  • Mentor Field Service Technicians and more junior Field Service Engineers
  • Effectively communicate with all levels of internal and external stakeholders from operators to senior management and executives
  • Proactively identify potential problems and provide solutions, instilling customer confidence in Formic service
  • Provide detailed service reports that list the Issue, root cause analysis (RCA) and solution
  • Lead RCA activities with a team of engineers and technicians across the team
  • Demonstrate a high level of attention to detail in everything thing you do
  • Coordinate and execute inspection, maintenance, and repair tasks on robotic-centric manufacturing cells in the field
  • Systematically diagnose technical issues, apply standard resolution tactics, and repair equipment with consistency
  • Assist in the development and refinement of maintenance procedures and tools
  • Deliver positive interaction with customers when performing warranty and service repairs and preventive maintenance tasks
  • Coordinate onsite schedule (self, vendor, and when applicable, other technicians) in alignment with customer expectations
  • Document all work performed in a timely manner
  • Ensure compliance with safety regulations and policies
  • Ensure clean and safe work environment

What makes you a great fit: 

  • Four year college degree in Engineering - or similar - or equivalent work experience required
  • 4+ years field service experience with robotics automation, working on six-axis industrial robots
  • CMMS programming experience required
  • Must be a self starter and able to work independently
  • Ability to travel/be on the road to visit Chicago-area customers up to 80%, with up to 25% requiring overnight stays
  • Ability to work alternative schedules to support production outages, including some weekends, nights and on-call hours

Total rewards packages at Formic consist of salaries benchmarked against similar stage growth companies, insurance (medical, dental, vision, life, STD, LTD), and equity in Formic itself. As an early stage startup, equity is an important part of our investment in you, and your investment in Formic. When Formic succeeds, we all succeed.

Final offer amounts are custom-crafted, based on the cash/equity ratio preference of the candidate, as well as their experience, geographical location and cost of labor, and more, and may vary from the range listed below. Ultimately we’re seeking top performers who will make a difference to our business, and we’re open to negotiating the compensation structure for the right candidate.

The expected base pay range for this position is $70,000 - $125,000.
