Peter Nielsen has a diverse work experience spanning over two decades. Peter is currently the Head of Legal at Forsyth Barr Limited, a position they have held since April 2022. Prior to this, Peter worked as a Project Lawyer and Senior Legal Counsel at the same company from January 2021 to March 2022. From 2012 to 2021, they worked at the Financial Markets Authority - New Zealand, initially as a Manager in Compliance Policy, then progressing to roles such as Principal Adviser - Legal, Acting Head of Corporate Legal, and Principal Adviser - Legal. Before joining the Financial Markets Authority, Peter served as the Manager of Financial Adviser Regulation at Kiwibank from August 2010 to December 2011. Peter also gained valuable experience as a Senior Policy Adviser at the Securities Commission from March 2008 to August 2010 and as a Corporate Lawyer at Bank of New Zealand from June 2007 to March 2008. Peter began their career as a Senior Analyst/Adviser at the Reserve Bank of New Zealand from October 2003 to June 2007. Prior to that, they worked as a Senior Solicitor at Chapman Tripp from January 2002 to October 2003 and as an Associate at Linklaters from June 2001 to December 2001. Peter started their legal career as a Solicitor at Chapman Tripp from October 1998 to July 2000 and gained early experience as a Legal Counsel at AsiaPower Developments Limited from February 1997 to September 1998.
Peter Nielsen attended Victoria University of Wellington from 1985 to 1987, where they obtained a Bachelor of Commerce and Administration degree (BCA) with a focus on Economics. Peter then pursued further education at the same university from 1993 to 1996, earning a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree with a specialization in Law.
